What You Will Need

Are you headed to the beach with the kiddos? Would you like to build your own sand sculpture but don’t know where to start? Let me help! Here’s the basics & the things you’ll need to be successful.

Tools of the trade: Beginner

  • 1 bucket
  • 1 shovel: A kids shovel is fine if only building for fun with the kids.
  • 2 or 3 carvings tools depending on how many kids are helping.  The kids sandcastle kits sold in stores will get the job done here at the beginner level. Below you will find a link for any tools I mention.
  • Other tools to consider that may be laying around the house or garage would be a small gardening shovel or a margin trowel (which is exactly what the pros use!)
  • Secret Tool (Shhhhh), A regular old fashion drinking straw. This helps blow away sand that falls after carving away, like when you make those cool windows in the castle. It’s best to use a hard plastic reusable straw which are better for the environment but if you don’t have one,  I suggest to stop on your way to the beach at any fast food place or quickie mart  and just grab a couple. You can always buy a drink if you feel guilty taking straws and leaving. Be sure not to litter and leave the straws in the sand! Keep our oceans clean and its creatures safe!

And that’s it really. Lets get started!! My Beginners Step by Step for kids and families can be found Here.
